Mumbai : Nitesh Tiwari's highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of the Ramayan is shaping up to be one of the most monumental projects in Indian film history, boasting a stellar cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as the formidable Raavan.
However, fans eager to see these two powerhouse performers share screen space may be in for a surprise. According to sources close to the production, the two actors will barely appear together in the film, as the narrative remains faithful to Valmiki's original text, where Ram and Raavan only come face-to-face during their final battle.
The decision to structure the film this way is a deliberate creative move by Tiwari and his team. As in the original epic, Lord Ram does not encounter Raavan until after the abduction of Sita, with both characters journeying separately through their arcs of righteousness and ambition.
This storytelling approach allows the film to develop each character's narrative in-depth, contrasting Ram's path of dharma with Raavan's descent into ego and power, heightening the tension ahead of their climactic confrontation.
Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly completed filming his portions for the trilogy's first installment, which is slated for release during Diwali 2026. Meanwhile, Yash, who plays Raavan, will share scenes with Sai Pallavi (Sita) and Sunny Deol (Hanuman), offering insights into his complex character from a different perspective.
Although earlier reports hinted at scenes between Yash and Ranbir, sources clarified that their appearances together would be limited, staying consistent with the epic's structure.
Adding to the complexity, Ranbir Kapoor is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War alongside Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt, maintaining a specific look for that film. This may have also influenced the production schedule and interaction dynamics between the two stars in Ramayan.
By preserving the spiritual and narrative authenticity of the original Ramayan, Nitesh Tiwari's adaptation promises not only a grand visual spectacle but also a faithful retelling that honors its mythological roots.
The minimal on-screen interaction between Ranbir Kapoor and Yash builds dramatic suspense, ensuring their eventual face-off delivers maximum emotional and cinematic impact.
